Golden Step

About us

We named the company after the part everyone else rushes through.

Stairs are the hardest flooring work in a house — thirteen chances to be sloppy, in the one place everyone touches every day. We figured if we could make stairs perfect, the rest of the floor would take care of itself. That standard became Golden Step.

Founder & Lead Installer

Owner spotlight

"I quote it, I install it, I stand on it."

Mobin Daghighi started in the trades the way most craftsmen do — fixing other people's shortcuts. Early in his career he spent more time tearing out failed installs than doing new ones: floors laid over wavy subfloors, stairs glued instead of fastened, vinyl butted tight against walls with no room to breathe.

Golden Step Flooring was his answer: a company small enough that the founder is physically on your job, and disciplined enough to follow manufacturer specifications to the letter — even the tedious ones. Today his crews install hardwood, vinyl and laminate across the GTA for homeowners, designers and builders who've been burned before and won't be again.

Our story

Built on callbacks we never had to make

Golden Step grew the slow way — referral by referral, street by street. A staircase in Richmond Hill led to the neighbour's main floor. A condo board in North York that hired us for one unit ended up sending us eleven. We've never bought a lead in our lives; our marketing department is the floor you walk on.

That only works if the work holds up. So we re-invest where customers can't see it: moisture meters, laser levels, premium adhesives, underlayment that costs three times the builder-grade stuff. The boring decisions are the brand.

Mission

To make every floor we touch the most over-built surface in the house — and the most beautiful.

We measure success in decades, not invoices. If a Golden Step floor needs us back inside five years, the visit is on us.

Core values

Four rules, no exceptions

Prep before pretty

A flawless surface over a flawed subfloor is a countdown clock. We fix what's underneath first, every time.

Quote once, honestly

Itemized, fixed pricing with prep work included. Surprises belong in birthdays, not invoices.

Treat the home like ours

Sealed doorways, floor protection on the path in, full vacuum every evening. You shouldn't live in a job site.

Stand on the work

A 5-year written workmanship warranty, signed by the founder. We answer our phone after the cheque clears.

How we work

From first call to final walkthrough

A defined process is why our finish dates hold and our quotes don't move. Here's exactly what working with us looks like.

Start at Step One
  1. In-home assessment

We measure every room, check subfloor levelness and moisture, and talk through how you actually live — pets, kids, sunlight, basement humidity.

  2. Fixed itemized quote — 48 hours

Materials, prep, transitions, disposal and timeline, line by line. Compare it against anyone; we encourage it.

  3. Material selection & acclimation

We bring samples to your lighting, order from distributors we trust, and let wood acclimate in your home before installation — never skipped, even when you're excited.

  4. Preparation & installation

Levelling, fastening, moisture barriers — then the install itself, with hand-fitted cuts at vents, casings and transitions.

  5. Walkthrough on our knees

We inspect at floor level with you, fix anything you find, then hand over your written 5-year warranty.

Why customers trust us

Trust is a paper trail

  • Fully insured and WSIB covered — documentation provided with every quote, before you ask.

  • No-deposit start — you pay nothing until materials are ordered, and the balance only after walkthrough.

  • Manufacturer-spec installs — we follow NWFA guidelines and product instructions exactly, which keeps your product warranty valid too.

  • References on request — talk to homeowners in your own neighbourhood before you sign.
